PRE-TOUR RECOMMENDATIONS
- Don’t forget to bring your passport (valid for at least 6 months) when heading to the airport. Keep it on you throughout the tour.
- Please be ready to check in at the specified airport at least 2 hours before your flight.
- Once you check in at the hotel, it’s a good idea to grab one of their business cards.
- Pack comfortable walking shoes, and throw a light raincoat in your suitcase since evenings can get chilly or rainy.
- Items that aren’t allowed in your carry-on, like perfume, cologne, scissors, and nail clippers, should go in your checked luggage. Food and drinks aren’t permitted in carry-on bags either, so any food items you buy should also go into your checked suitcase.
- You may not always find the same medications (or their equivalents) in the Balkans that you’d find in your home country, so make sure to bring any prescriptions or regular medications you need.
- Bring your spending money in Euros.
- Please check the visa requirements for Bosnia and Herzegovina based on your passport before traveling.
- If you have a connecting domestic flight, plan to be at the airport at least 1 hour before departure.
- 1 Euro equals 1.95 KM (Convertible Mark). The exchange rate is fixed, and currency exchange offices charge a 1% commission. We recommend exchanging your money at the exchange offices in the bazaar during the Sarajevo tour rather than at the airport.
- If you’d like to purchase a local SIM, internet, or calling package, we recommend arranging this upon arrival or before leaving your home country.

After meeting our guide and transfer vehicle at the airport in Sarajevo, we head towards Baščaršija. On the way, we see:
- Buildings still marked by war-time bombings
- Sarajevo’s tram line (Europe’s first electric tram line, still in operation)
- Former Yugoslav People’s Army buildings, now Sarajevo University campus
- The second largest U.S. Embassy building in the world
- Sarajevo City Museum
- Parliament Building
- The region’s largest shopping mall (built by Arab investors)
Our first stop is the Martyrs’ Cemetery where victims of the 1992–1995 war and Bosnia’s first president Alija Izetbegović’s memorial tomb are located. After learning about Izetbegović’s life, we continue on foot through the preserved Ottoman-era cobblestoned Bosniak–Turkish quarter and begin our Baščaršija walking tour. Highlights include:
- 18th-century Sebil Fountain
- Baščaršija Coppersmith Street (the only surviving Ottoman-era artisan street)
- Čaršija Mosque
- Morića Han (and the Mladi Muslimani – “Young Muslims” association center)
- Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque and Mausoleum

- Gazi Husrev-bey Museum & Library
- Europe’s first public toilet
- Latin Bridge (site of WWI outbreak)

After the walking tour, free time until dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at hotel in Ilidža district.

First stop: Konjic – a small town on the Neretva River with restored Ottoman bridge, mosque with broken minaret, and a traditional bazaar.
Next: Jablanica – famous for roasted lamb and the site where Tito’s forces blew up the bridge in WWII.
Continue to Blagaj – visit the 500-year-old Dervish Tekke by the Buna River spring, known as Sarı Saltuk Tekke. Explore its mausoleums, prayer rooms, and traditional Ottoman architecture.
Final stop: Mostar. Highlights include:
- Martyrs’ Mosque and cemetery
- Stone-paved Old Bazaar
- Koski Mehmet Pasha Mosque (best photo spot of the bridge)
- Stari Most (Mostar Bridge – built 1566 by Mimar Hayrettin, destroyed in 1993, rebuilt in 2004)
- Tara Tower (former guard post, now museum)
- Kriva Cuprija (Crooked Bridge)
- Tabakhane Mosque & Hammam
Dinner at a local restaurant overlooking the bridge. Overnight in Mostar.
Breakfast and departure to Montenegro. Crossing the border via Stolac–Ljubinje–Trebinje. Ferry ride with views of the Bay of Kotor. Arrival in Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Walking tour:

Proceed to Budva – visit the old town, citadel, medieval streets, Catholic and Orthodox churches, and marina.
Continue to St. Stefan Island (photo stop).
Visit Cetinje (first capital of Montenegro) and see the former Ottoman consulate.
Arrival in Podgorica – short walking tour including Clock Tower and Osmanagić Mosque. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Podgorica.
Breakfast. Panoramic Podgorica tour: Presidential Palace, Millennium Bridge, King Nikola Monument, and Azerbaijani-funded city park.
Cross into Albania. First stop: Shkodër (visit fortress and old town). Continue to Tirana – panoramic tour: under-construction Namazgah Mosque, Skanderbeg Square, Ethem Bey Mosque, Clock Tower, National Museum, University, Opera House, Parliament, and Presidential Palace.
Continue to Elbasan – see Elbasan Fortress and Turkish streets. Drive to Struga (famous for poets and the Black Drin River). Final stop: Ohrid. Dinner by Ohrid Lake. Overnight in Ohrid.
Breakfast. Walking tour of Ohrid: Old Bazaar, Ali Pasha Mosque, Halveti Tekke, St. Sophia Church, Ancient Theatre, Sinan Celebi Mausoleum, and more.
Drive to Resen – visit Niyazi Bey’s French château-style residence.
Continue to Bitola (Manastir) – highlights: Military Academy (where Atatürk studied), Širok Sokak, Old Bazaar, Yeni Mosque, Clock Tower, Magnolia Square, Ishak Celebi Mosque.
Proceed to Tetovo – visit Aladza (Painted) Mosque and Harabati Baba Tekke.
Arrive in Skopje. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Skopje.
Breakfast. Visit Vodno Mountain for panoramic view of Skopje. Panoramic tour by bus: Parliament, Foreign Ministry, University Library, Yahya Pasha Mosque, and more.
Walking tour in Skopje Old Bazaar: Mustafa Pasha Mosque, Stone Bridge, Turkish & Jewish quarters, Davut Pasha Hammam, Kapan Han, Kuršumli Han, Alexander the Great and Philip II statues, Archaeology Museum, National Theatre, Mother Teresa Memorial House, Old Railway Station.
Free time. Afternoon transfer to Prizren, Kosovo. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Prizren.
Breakfast and check-out. Guided tour of Prizren: Sinan Pasha Mosque, Halveti Tekke, Gazi Mehmet Pasha Hammam, Shadërvan Square, Stone Bridge, Ottoman mosques, Catholic and Orthodox churches, and the old fortress.
Proceed to Pristina. On the way: visit Gazimestan Monument and the Mausoleum of Sultan Murad I (killed in the 1389 Battle of Kosovo).
In Pristina: Clock Tower, Kosovo Museum, Fatih Mosque, Yaşar Pasha Mosque.
Transfer to Pristina International Adem Jashari Airport. End of tour.
